P-TECH is proud to be in its 13th year, having grown from one school in Brooklyn to a worldwide movement. Our students earn a high school diploma, an industry-recognized associate degree, and gain relevant work experience in a growing field. There is a growing number of P-TECH schools in the city and state as well as dozens in other countries. Independent research on our innovative 9-14 model has shown a significant positive impact on students' college and career readiness. Students at P-TECH have the opportunity to earn a college degree for free, gain valuable internship experience, making them strong candidates to continue their education or join the workforce. We offer programs in computer information systems, electromechanical engineering technology, and as part of New York City's FutureReady program, we are preparing to launch an education pathway as well, to prepare the next generation of STEM teachers. Interested students and families can apply through the city's high school application process.

Congratulations are in order for P-TECH scholar, Dolapo “Didi” Akinola, the second recipient of the Scholarship Grant from Skillpointe Foundation and Schneider Electric!
A 2023 high school graduate, Akinola began taking college courses in her sophomore year and is steadily maintaining a 3.2 GPA while pursuing an Associate in Computer Information Systems (CST) at City Tech while simultaneously completing a high school Physics class. During the summer of 2022, Akinola was a Student Ambassador for the P-TECH Summer Bridge Program where she worked closely with Mr. Campbell, a Geometry teacher. According to Akinola, she enjoyed tutoring the incoming freshman, “being able to see a student who hates math start to change his/her mind boosted my ego!” Akinola plans to pursue her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at a private college in NYC. In traditional Nigerian culture, “Ashe”

“…during my junior year I applied and was offered a 3-week Boot Camp internship at “America on Tech,” a nonprofit organization located in Manhattan. In those three weeks, I learned website designing on Replit; it was so satisfying seeing what a few lines of “ code” could translate into – I was coding! After completing the Boot Camp, I applied and completed their yearlong “Tech Flex” Leaders Program. The program was an amazing experience in which I learned Javascript, HTML, and CSS. Because of this knowledge, to date, I have built several websites and won many competitions that propelled me to certify my career in technology. The latter made me realize that I actually do have a passion for technology, specifically software development. I could someday work for a company as big or bigger than TikTok!”
Congratulations are in order for Janielle Livingston, the first P-TECH recipient to receive a $2500 Scholarship Grant from Skillpointe Foundation and Schneider Electric.
Janielle received notification on Monday, October 31, 2022 (while at home ill) that she is 1 of 20 students awarded a scholarship grant. Applicants submitted a 500-word essay related to their fields of interest, i.e. building automation, security, IT, electrical, HVAC, construction maintenance, and/or a building-related field.
Janielle wrote about her passion to improve the lives of those “less fortunate.”

“…being financially able to help restore communities was what sparked my desire to pursue an early college degree in Computer Information Systems at Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) …. During my first college “tech” course, Introduction to Computer System (CST), I realized my zest to create things through programming or/and buildings would improve the lives of others and provide possibilities for those who are less fortunate. The CST class confirmed what I know; I want to be a coder. To date, I have learned and used Python and JavaScript's fundamentals (i.e., programming shapes, placing them in various places, creating avatars) and quickly being able to find errors in my code (this is very important.)”
Congratulations, Janielle Livingston!
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- It may look like a traditional high school, but from the moment students like ShuDon Brown enter the P-TECH classrooms in Brooklyn, the expectations are different.
"I got my high school diploma and two-year associate's degrees by the time I was 16," said Brown. "I am just thankful for the program."
P-TECH Students describe the "Internet of Things"
“Last year, I also talked about how we would form some new partnerships with businesses, nonprofits, and universities to more directly connect our students to colleges and careers — and we have done that. One great example I wanted to share with you is what we call P-Tech, the new Pathways in Technology High School that we created jointly with I.B.M. and the City University of New York, which opened its doors this year. This groundbreaking public school runs from grade 9 to grade 14. You may have noticed two extra grades in there, and that’s because students at P-Tech will learn the traditional core subjects, and also receive an education in computer science and complete two years of college work. When they graduate from grade 14 with an Associate’s Degree and a qualified record, they will be first in line for jobs with I.B.M., something that is really important in this day and age to all our kids.
“The students at P-Tech will also help us further another of our long-term goals: to diversify our local economy by supporting industries that have the potential to grow and expand here."
